Submit your story: Help The Oak Leaf document life during the pandemic

The Oak Leaf invites all students, faculty, administrators and staff to submit work describing how the coronavirus pandemic is affecting your lives, in an effort to document the college’s path through these unprecedented times. Submissions will be published here.

How has the pandemic shaped your worldview or your plans for the future?

How has the coronavirus and its fallout made you feel?

Have you gotten sick or do you know someone who has?

What has it been like to shelter-in-place? 

Did you lose your job or did your hours increase?

How are you coping, and do you have advice for other?

Submission guidelines

The Oak Leaf will accept stories:

  • in any digital medium: written work, photography, illustration, audio and video
  • in any style: blog, essay, feature story, poetry, spoken word, single photo, photo essay, vlog, short film
  • of no more than 650 words for written work or 3 minutes for audio and video

Please include:

  • your name as you’d like it published
  • your year at SRJC, if you’re a student
  • your title/role on campus, if you’re faculty, staff or administration
  • a photo or artwork to run alongside your submission. It can be a self-portrait, a portrait, a landscape, an illustration — anything that is representative of your work.

Please note:

  • all submissions may be edited by The Oak Leaf Staff for clarity and punctuation
  • your submission may be published to The Oak Leaf ‘s website and social media accounts and in any future special issue
