I never thought I would miss my daily routine

Yuri+Esocbedo+is+an+ESL+student+at+Santa+Rosa+Junior+College.
Yuri Esocbedo is an ESL student at Santa Rosa Junior College.

I’m an ESL student at  Santa Rosa Junior College for the past two years. I’m a mother of two special children, those who have a school routine, outdoor play and homework. Every day the same routine, but nowadays they can only be away from home when I need to work. Kids who have to take their classes like me. Who miss classes in classrooms with teachers and classmates.

Every day when we leave home, I am mentioning to my children the importance of staying safe, following hygiene rules. That’s stressful for me, not being in control and not being able to keep them safe. Working full time, tired and stressed by what is happening. Sadness and helplessness. People tired of being at home and I arriving at home tired after a hard day of work.

I never thought I would miss the routine I had before COVID-19.  When I was quick for not being late for school or work. Miss the dining room at my work with those elderly people who liked to have their breakfast there and have a great chat with their friends.  I don’t know how they are at this time.

Those outings to stroll with family, attend social events, go to the movies, dinner with good friends, visit family and friends, without fear. That is undoubtedly what is most missed right now. I never thought I would miss going to the supermarket, without those long lines at the entrance and someone indicating how many people could enter at the moment. The reproachful glances of people when they see that I go somewhere with my children when they don’t know if there is someone at home or not to take care of them. Those things that were not fantastic before are those that are so missed today.
