iPad 3 reveal fails to impress

For the first time in a while, Apple has failed to “wow” its consumers with the reveal of its latest gadget. Although the iPad 3 is a superior device to the iPad 2, there are no stand out features to make previous iPad owners feel the need to splurge on the newest iteration.

The announcement of SIRI for the iPhone 4S was totally unexpected, but has become the defining feature of the device and the lack of SIRI is rather conspicuous on the iPad 3. There are some voice recognition capabilities but nothing as extensive as SIRI.

The most notable upgrades on the new iPad are the screen, the processor, the camera and the inclusion of an optional 4G-lTE receiver. The 4G upgrade was expected and those who use their iPads to stream videos will notice a big increase in speed. While the camera is an improvement over the terrible camera on the iPad 2, the iPad 3 camera on is only 5 mega pixels, whereas the iPhone 4 camera is 8-mega pixels. The processor and screen will help with gaming and other graphics intensive tasks, but those upgrades were expected.

Overall, this is a pretty disappointing release. There is no compelling reason to buy the newest iPad. Apple lost an opportunity to regain their strong hold on the tablet market by releasing this lackluster device.
