SRJC Student Hit by Car

An SRJC student was struck by a car while walking in a Rincon Valley crosswalk and died four hours later at Santa Memorial Hospital on Oct. 21.

On the night of Oct. 20, Torres was visiting close friend and fellow SRJC student David Farias who lives in the Mission Boulevard area. He was struck by the car in the Randall lane crosswalk shortly after leaving Farias’s home.

He was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital with severe head injuries and died early the next morning at 3:18 a.m.

Alejandro Mendoza Torres, 24, was born in Michoacán, Mexico. After graduating high school he moved to the Central Valley to live with one of his sisters. Torres moved to Santa Rosa in 2006.

Torres worked as a parts operator for a medical parts company called SMC Ltd. and regularly sent money home to help his family. He had four sisters and two brothers. His father also died seven months ago.

Torres is survived by his mother and four siblings in Mexico and a sister in Modesto. He will be buried in Mexico.
