CSUs accepting transfer applications for Spring 2011

If you’re ready to transfer, but waiting until you can apply to a CSU, wait no more. CSU will accept transfer applications for the spring 2011 semester. For the past two years, most CSUs have been unable to accept Spring transfers due to budget cuts.

CSU received a budget augmentation from the recently approved California Budget that will allow the state university system to accept more transfer applications for the following year. Because of the unexpected pressure to meet new enrollment goals, CSUs will review applications for all transfer students, including sophomores who would have been eligible to enter CSUs as a freshman.

In addition to the restrictions on spring applications, CSUs gave priority to transfer students from within their particular school’s region for the past two years, often leaving no spaces for students from other regions. With the newly augmented budget, CSUs will accept applications from qualified students from any region for this spring.

“[Students] should come to the transfer center to find out how to file a CSU admissions application,” said Roberta Delgado, a transfer center counselor. Students who have completed their transfer requirements, but were waiting to transfer in fall 2011 should visit the Transfer Center and speak with a counselor.

Delgado said many students may have been advised at the Transfer Center to wait to apply, but would now be eligible. “Apply now,” Delgado said.
