In episode 2 of the Fractal Harmonics podcast, columnist Marty Lees takes fellow Oak Leafers on a deep dive into cybernetics to discover why systems fail.
Originally from England, Marty is in his second semester at SRJC, returning to education as a journalism major after an eventful career as a soldier/security contractor across the Global War on Terror. Away from campus he writes and performs poetry, takes his dog to the beach and bakes excellent sourdough.
Michael Combs (he/him) began taking natural resources management classes at Santa Rosa Junior College to pursue his love of nature and the environment but has shifted toward journalism so he can share those passions with the world. Besides the environment, Michael also likes to write about politics, social justice and mental health. He has a bachelor’s of science in neuroscience and mammalian physiology from the University of California, San Diego, and hopes to get back to his roots with more science journalism as well. In his off time Michael likes to read, write and hike as often as possible in beautiful Sonoma County and beyond.
Kevin Terlizzi-Bowes is a senior podcast editor and writer in his fourth semester at The Oak Leaf. This semester, Kevin aims to work with his new podcast editor, Dylan, to streamline the podcasting department. He also works at The Community Voice in Rohnert Park to round out his skills and gain experience in the field. He has a wide set of interests, ranging from video games, fashion, crafts and politics, which fuels his passion to cover anything and everything.
Dylan Cooper is in his second semester at The Oak Leaf and delving headfirst into multimedia production and management. He has taken on the role of podcast editor alongside Kevin Terlizzi-Bowes and plans to overhaul the media side of the newsroom to welcome new voices and produce more content. He can also be found writing articles for both The Oak Leaf and The Community Voice, where he works in his free time. When not publishing work or combing his impressive mustache, he can be found running a Dungeons & Dragons campaign with other Oak Leaf staff members or worldbuilding for other D&D games.
