Track team looks to sprint ahead this season

The 2014 Santa Rosa Junior College Bear Cubs track team has lofty hopes for the upcoming season.  Following a promising fifth-place finish under coach David Wellman, the new team has great potential.

In the 2013 season, seven athletes qualified for state meets and 14 athletes qualified for the NorCal Finals.

With 30 returning athletes, the team has already been bolstered to 65 athletes ready to compete this spring.  The influx of talent has only lead to an increase in quality runners.

“We should only be better this year.  Coach Wellman has been running us in practice to make sure we get it right and we’ve been working hard to get ready for invitation meets so we can make state,” said SRJC newcomer Alex Wilson.

Wilson is one of several football players running this spring, excited to be sprinting for Wellman and for coach Katrina Wagner.

With promising athletes like Wilson, this should be a big year for the track squad.
