In a national day of action, students, activists and demonstrators carried out a general strike and walkout in San Francisco Jan. 30. Named ICE Out, it ran in coordination with other walkout protests across the U.S. in response to the killings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti by Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers.
The Arab Resource & Organizing Center, General Union of Palestine Students at San Francisco State University, 50501 movement, Rights Over Borders, Party for Socialism and Liberation Bay Area and Arab Youth Organizing came together to coordinate the protest. Thousands turned out, including students who walked out of high schools and colleges across the Bay Area.
Young artists came out to set up an ad hoc screen-printing station to make signs for protesters. “I think it’s important to have art be activism and get hope to people,” said Drew School art teacher Ali Blum.
Protesters gathered in Mission Dolores Park to listen to speakers ranging from labor leaders to student activists. Labor leaders, teachers and students all took the stage to demand justice for the killings in Minneapolis, making it clear that ICE wasn’t welcome in San Francisco.
As the speeches ceased, the protesters began to march toward City Hall, chanting a call for justice and for the removal of ICE. The march lasted about an hour as they filled up nearly eight blocks of the downtown side of Market Street.
Upon arriving at City Hall they assembled in the square with more speakers coming up to talk, sharing their desires for reform. Protesters didn’t begin to disperse until 5 p.m.
Protests against ICE are planned to continue throughout the Bay Area in the coming weeks and months, according to Bay Resistance.

Why do these clowns hold the flag of a foreign country that they supposedly don’t want to go back to?
