Throughout my life, I’ve played many video games as a kid. Games such as “Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition REMIX,” “Call of Duty 3” and “Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon” would then make me want to explore more video game worlds. The five games listed below would be a great way to get interested in video games and, hopefully, discover your next favorite game.
Watch Dogs (2014)
In the world of “Watch Dogs,” privacy is nonexistent and every bit of technology is connected to a single network, making every piece of tech vulnerable to breaches and hacks.
For the game’s aspect on hacking, it is easy to understand how it works. “Watch Dogs” has good gameplay with guns and a freerunning system, which is a type of acrobatic movement focused on navigating on natural or urban environments. This allows the game to run smoothly and deliver engaging movement and combat.
Available on Platforms: PS3, Xbox 360, PS4, Xbox One, Wii U and PC
Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Breakpoint (2019)
“Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Breakpoint” is a great tactical shooter game if you’re looking for one that isn’t multiplayer-focused, such as “Call of Duty” or “Battlefield.”
In this game, you can choose to play alone or with three AI teammates. You can also invite your friends along. You can adjust the difficulty and its functions in any way you like, whether you want it to include role-playing game elements or not, or choose to have limited medical resources.
The game is set in the fictional archipelago of “Auora” after communications were cut off. You play as an elite spec ops soldier known as a Ghost, and your team is deployed to reestablish communications until you are shot down and left stranded on the islands. Fight for survival while also discovering and stopping a deep state conspiracy to establish a new world order.
Available on Platforms: PS4, Xbox One and PC
Saints Row 2 (2008)
Since the majority of video game enthusiasts are waiting for the release of “Grand Theft Auto VI,” this makes a good introduction to Volition’s “Saints Row” series. “Saints Row” is the wacky arcade counterpart of Rockstar Games’ “Grand Theft Auto” franchise. While the two are similar games, unlike “Grand Theft Auto”, there are twice as many activities available to do in “Saints Row 2” as the competitors have to offer.
Activities come in various forms, where you can choose to be a bodyguard for a celebrity, push off die-hard fans, or blast sewage at civilians and structures. Regardless, side missions like these are required to progress to the main missions where you and your gang seek to regain control of the fictional city of “Stilwater” after losing it all in the first game.
Available on Platforms: PS3, Xbox 360 and PC
Call of Duty: Black Ops (2010)
With the negative reception “Call of Duty: Black Ops 7″ received during its release Nov. 2025, it’s time to rewind back to when the sub-series just started. Set during the Cold War, you are being interrogated by an unknown person, forcing you to recall past events such as the Bay of Pigs Invasion and the Vietnam War.
The game brings intense action, fighting waves of armed hostiles while symphonic music plays, making every moment in the game unforgettable.
Available on Platforms: PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, and PC
Marvel: Ultimate Alliance (2006)
“Marvel: Ultimate Alliance” is unique for what it is, being a dungeon crawler and an action role-playing game where you can choose between your favorite Marvel heroes and form the best team of four you can think of to stop Doctor Doom.
Because it’s a dungeon crawler, you’ll be facing a couple of large waves of enemies and bosses while combining your attacks with teammates that you formed while they level up. In certain moments, the game also allows you to make choices that have major effects, determining the fate of the Marvel Universe for you to see after completing the main story.
Available on Platforms: PS2, Xbox, PSP, GBA, Wii, PS3, Xbox 360, and PC
