Sonoma County’s 18th annual Student Film Festival will spotlight the next generation of filmmakers as they take to the big screen April 3 in Carole L. Ellis Auditorium at Santa Rosa Junior College’s Petaluma campus.
The SRJC-hosted event will open its doors at 5:30 p.m. to showcase a lineup of student-created short films from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., offering audiences a glimpse at emerging student voices within the local filmmaking community.
The long-running festival, founded by former student government assembly president Amanda Swan, continues to help Sonoma County students make academic and professional connections while promoting the film studies and digital filmmaking programs at SRJC.
The event highlights a wide range of work from animation to abstract and surrealist to experimental films, reflecting the diversity of stories and styles coming from students in Sonoma County.
Beyond the festival, featured filmmakers whose work is selected for the screening will also receive passes to Film Fest Petaluma, Petaluma’s international short-film festival on May 2, giving students access to a broader network of filmmakers and other industry professionals.
Filmmakers whose films are chosen as “Best of Show” will also be invited to screen their film at Film Fest Petaluma.
