It’s a big week for Santa Rosa Junior College sports. The fall season is heating up, and momentum is starting to become a factor.
The women’s volleyball team has a huge week. They play in the Hartnell Classic tournament at 1 p.m. Sept. 18 on the road against Hartnell College. Their second game versus Mission College will be at 3 p.m. the same day.
They’ll look to build on a 3-4 start to the season at 6:30 p.m. versus Cosumnes River Friday Sept. 20 at home. They will finish the week with the Santa Rosa Classic tournament. The Bear Cubs host Cabrillo College at 1 p.m. and Butte College at 5 p.m. Sept. 21.
Sophomore Tallulah Kuula is leading the team with 74 kills through seven matches. She’s looking to continue her strong momentum.
SRJC cross country has its first meet at 3:30 p.m. Thursday Sept. 19 at the Lou Vasques Meet at San Francisco City College.
SRJC’s women’s soccer team is looking to build on their scorching start to the season. They’ll look to improve to 5-0-1 when they take on Cosumnes River at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday Sept. 17 in Sacramento.
They play Folsom Lake College at 3:30 p.m. Friday Sept. 20 at home. Second-year forward Gizel Carranza dominated early on, scoring eight goals through five games.
The men’s soccer team is also off to an excellent start in 2019, winning four of its first five. First-year forward Carlos Lemus and second-year midfielder Rigo Barragan have five goals apiece early on. They take on Cabrillo College at 2 p.m. Tuesday Sept. 17 at Cabrillo. They’ll finish the week versus Fullerton College at 11 a.m. Sept. 21.
SRJC wrestling has a meet at 9 a.m. Sept. 21 at Sacramento City College. The Bear Cubs are still kicking their season into gear.
SRJC football is trying to improve on its 0-2 start to the season. They take on Shasta College at 1 p.m. Sept. 21 at the Santa Rosa High School football field. The defense is hoping for a better performance. They’ve given up 40 points-per-game thus far. Shasta could prove to be a tough test, coming into the game at 2-0.
