Santa Rosa Junior College will hold a day of remembrance to mark the anniversary of last year’s October wildfires at 11 a.m. Oct 9 in the Bertolini Student Center.

The event is a chance for those affected to reflect on the devastating fires that swept through Sonoma and Napa counties.

Hilleary Zarate, SRJC’s manager of student life, equity and engagement, said the event will be a valuable part of processing emotions and reflecting as a community on the wildfires’ anniversary.

“I really want people to take control of their own healing,” Zarate said.

Two screenings of “Urban Inferno: The Night Santa Rosa Burned” will play during the event. The film, written, directed and produced by Dr. Stephen Seager, recounts the story of several Santa Rosa residents who were forced to flee their homes when the fires hit.

Dr. Seager will speak during the day of remembrance at 11 a.m. Pat Kerrigan, KSRO’s morning host, will speak at 2 p.m.

Between the hours of 12:30 and 2 p.m. attendees can participate in guided healing activities, including art and song.

For any questions or concerns, contact the office of Student Life and Engagement Programs at 707-527-4239 or [email protected].
