The Santa Rosa Junior College Career Hub will host the Fall Forward Career Series Job and Internship Fair from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Oct. 29 in the Bertolini Student Center Dining Commons, offering employment opportunities and information to all students.
The event aims to connect students with employers in areas such as law enforcement, education and theology, so they can learn about potential career paths.
“We plan at least two or more career or job fairs every academic year and there are a couple reasons we do that,” SRJC job developer Megan Rhodes said. “One is to connect students to active jobs and internships in the area because students need work.”
“The other is to help students that may have questions about their educational paths,” Rhodes said. “Maybe they are curious how someone becomes an engineer or a data analyst, so it’s also for students who are like, ‘How do I get to where I want to go?’”
Rhodes said any experience is good experience in the job market; the sooner students can build their skill sets and résumés, the better. “We’re looking for those types of opportunities to start building their resume or to gain experience in the field that they’re interested in to ask employers about entry-level jobs,” she said.
Thirty employers will attend the event, including the California Highway Patrol, Cotati-Rohnert Park Unified School District, Exchange Bank and the Diocese of Santa Rosa.
Employers will offer entry-level jobs and internships connected to specific fields of study. “We encourage most of our internships to be paid,” Rhodes said.
“One thing we are doing differently this year is having our work experience faculty there to offer additional support for students who are looking to get that entry level job or internship,” she added.
Rhodes recommends students attend the fair even if they are not looking for a job. “It’s really a great opportunity to practice professional engagement,” she said.A full list of employers and other information about the event can be found on SRJC’s Career Hub event website.
