Gather round ye geeks and nerds, because Sonoma Con, a convention filled to the brim with tabletop games, cosplay contests and more, opens its doors at 8 a.m. Oct. 4-5 at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds.
Sonoma Con organizers seek to raise the bar following the event’s inaugural year by offering even more ways to engage, with the added space from the fairgrounds allowing room for games, meets and tournaments to increase exponentially.
The Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) experience is a new addition this year.
“We’ve created an immersive experience where people are able to walk a D&D-style adventure and explore different zones of the convention,” said Joseph Sapp, Sonoma Con’s event coordinator.
A wide range of tournaments — including Magic: The Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Warhammer and Pokèmon — will be offered. People can engage in competitive play or enjoy casual matches with other attendees.
Sonoma Con will host other gaming companies to act as vendors at the event.
“You will see people there like Nostalgia Alley from Petaluma,” Sapp said. “We have Vaulted Rarities, which works with OP Comics and Games who are sponsoring the convention; so a pretty good variety of local vendors.”
The convention is a melting pot for the collectible community here in Santa Rosa, with stores selling a wide array of products for any collector to drool over. Comics, figurines and other unique items will litter displays down every path at the fairgrounds.
A series of esteemed guests, such as Phil Stone, Nicki Rapp and David Gonzalez, will attend to meet fans. Other known voice actors and Magic: The Gathering artists will show off the work they have produced over the years.
Single-day tickets are $15, while a weekend pass is $25. Tournament entries are available for purchase on the Sonoma Con website.
