Board of Trustees: help wanted

SRJC started the process of selecting a new president immediately after Dr. Agrella announced his retirement on Aug. 30.

The search process is being conducted by the Board of Trustees, who advertise the position with recruitment brochures. They also developed the job requirements.

Agrella will finish his duties on June 30, but has mentioned he is open to answer any questions or concerns the new president may have. As for the board, “they have to find someone they feel comfortable with,” Agrella said.

The board will start advertising the position in December or January. The San Francisco Chronicle, Press Democrat and local want ads are some mediums in consideration for advertising.

An ad hoc subcommittee, made up of Trustees Richard Call, Temy Lindley and B. Robert Burdo, worked with Human Resources to develop the requirement process for the position. The Board of Trustees agreed everything will be coordinated by the HR office. The liaisons between the board and HR will be Director of Human Resources Karen Furukawa and Recruitment coordinator Sarah Hopkins.

The first step of the process is setting up an interviewing committee. The committee will consist of two board members, two board-chosen administrators, two faculty members appointed by the academic senate, two classified staff and two students.

By the education code, the board must recruit nationally, but there are also internal applicants. Even though Agrella’s retirement starts at the end of June, the new president is being hired for Fall 2011.

The HR department and public relations office are designing a dedicated website for the job requirements. The website will include the job announcement, application process, updates, Screening Interviewing Committee representatives and district resource links. The website link will be on SRJC’s home page.

The board has said it will be working with the college to ensure the best candidate is selected.
