Haunted house review: Doctor Evil’s House of Horror

The scary parts of Dr. Evil’s House of Horrors happen even before you step into the Guerneville haunted house’s revolving door. The nighttime drive to Guerneville is in itself a Halloween adventure, since there’s definitely a spooky feeling as one zips by River Road’s dark forest road. It only heightens the anticipation for whatever chills and thrills await its visitors.

Masterminded by the husband and wife team of Mike and Tracy Skaggs, Dr. Evil’s House of Horrors is fun and entertaining from start to finish. Warmed by a bonfire, visitors waiting for their turn to enter the haunted house are treated to a live one-man comedy routine by Doctor Evil (played by Mike Skaggs) broadcast through speakers. Despite the Halloween-themed play area for kids, Doctor Evil’s hilarious monologues are definitely for more mature ears.

In fact, the haunted house has a more grown-up feel to it. The music blasting throughout gives the place a truly sinister atmosphere, and the actors deliver scares from every hidden corner inside. The interior itself is gritty, which lends the haunted house a disturbing and menacing impression.

Dr. Evil’s House of Horrors embodys Guerneville’s quirky and whimsical attitude, and its greatest feature is the good mix of fun, humor and creepiness from start to finish.
