The Santa Rosa Junior College theatre arts department will hold its production of the rock-opera “Jesus Christ Superstar” starting April 19. The musical is a concept album from the late ‘60s with a reimagined take on the story of Jesus Christ, depicting him as if having the meteoric rise to fame of a modern day celebrity.

Award-winning actor Philip Percy Williams will be playing the role of Christ.

“I feel so blessed to have an opportunity to perform my favorite role and show with this wonderful and talented cast,” Williams said.

Ariana LeMark who is playing Mary Magdalene said, “The music is just magnificent, and Mary Magdalene is such a spectacular role, she’s the bringer of peace in this production and I am absolutely delighted to have been cast.”

The show is appropriate for ages 12 and up.

Showings include 7:30 p.m. on Apr. 19-20, 25-27 and May 2-4 , and 1:30 p.m. showings on Apr. 21, 27-28 and May 4-5 at Maria Carrillo High School auditorium on 6975 Montecito Blvd in Santa Rosa.

Parking is free, however tickets will go on sale from $12 to $22.
