Bear Cubs Soccer save their best for home

The home-standing Santa Rosa Junior College Bear Cubs were on the attack as they defeated Modesto Junior College 7-1 on Oct. 30.

The Bear Cubs scoring started with a goal by forward Juan Nuneo, only 19 minutes into the game. His goal opened the floodgates, as four minutes later Santa Rosa High School graduate Brian Sanchez gave the Bear Cubs a quick 2-0 lead.

SRJC finished the first half scoring with a goal by Alexandro Madrigal at six minutes mark making the score 3-0 at halftime.

Santa Rosa was in complete control of the game by the half, with the Bear Cub defenders rapidly stealing the ball and pushing forward pressing against the Modesto goal.

David Luis, a midfielder from Casa Grande, and Kevin Rojas followed with goal number five for Santa Rosa.

After Modesto scored their only score on the game, the Santa Rosa Coach Marty Kinahan brought in the reserves.

“The changes were good for the team’s morale,” Coach Kinahan said.

Luis and Augusto Magalhaes finished off the scoring, making the final score, 7-1.

The win upped the Bear Cubs league record to 4-2-1 and making their overall record to 9-6-1.

“The win was good for us after the long amount of road games,” he added.

Next, up for the Santa Rosa Bear Cubs, they face American River College in Sacramento at 3 p.m. Nov. 2 in Sacremento. Earlier in the season, the Bear Cubs defeated them 2-0. In the current standings, Santa Rosa is in a battle with Delta and Folsom Lake.
