Bear Cubs win gets them to Five in a Row

Santa Rosa Junior College baseball team (22-8,10-6) kept up their winning ways with a 6-3 comeback victory against Modesto Junior College April 15.

It was a scoreless game, until MJC’s Kaden Cline hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the fifth.

The next at bat for the Bear Cubs started with Matt LoCoco who grounded out to first. Then Phil Ramos singled to first base.  Phil Ramos scored from third on a throwing error by MJC’s shortstop.

Weston Bryan scored after Anthony Bender singled, bringing the Bear Cubs within one, making the score 3-2, in the top of the sixth.

In the top of the seventh, Ramos singled, bringing in Taylor Martin to score for the Bear Cubs, tying the game at 3-3.

The run that put SRJC out front was a two-run single from Chase Stafford bringing in Parker Shaw and Ramos, giving the Bear Cubs their first lead with the score 5-3.

“Coming from behind late in the game is important in regards to knowing/being confident in the team’s ability to come back,” said head coach Damon Neidlinger. “[The] big key was scoring the two runs in the top of the seventh after scored three in the bottom of the sixth on a home run. Then it was big hits for RBIs late in the game.”

In the top of the ninth, the Bear Cubs scored one more run when Dane Erbst singled, bringing in Stafford to extend the lead to 6-3.

“Wasn’t necessarily our best game but guys were able to come through when it counted,” LoCoco said.

The Bear Cubs continue their three-game series against Modesto Junior College at 2:30 p.m. April 17.
